:scratch2::puke:

It's not a rare set but the execution leaves a lot to be desired.

I'll have to agree with you on that one.

Well, on the upside the case doesn't appear to have been ruined and is still in good shape. Maybe somebody with a working Motorola chassis will save it.

That poor combo is also a good candidate - take a good look at the pictures:

There SHOULD be a 1951 Emerson inside of it... but it is long gone.

Yes, I have to agree. It's a shame that someone surrounded a vintage DVD player with an ugly wooden cabinet like that...

"Execution" is the right word.

I do, however, have a VT71 with a beat-up cabinet, and I bought a nicely-restored one for it a year or two ago, so I will have an empty cabinet of my own eventually. I should probably just save it for someone with a chassis and no cabinet at all.

Yup, saw this last night while doing my regular tv searches, I must agree:puke:

Mine's not much better...http://www.audiokarma.org/forums/att...4&d=1196566704
Now an HDTV set...
:D

Maybe the winning bidder could have the seller give the needless modern innards to a charitable organization and save on shipping!

What leaps to mind is that command used by the smarmy Mexican "Officer" from MaPache's Army, in the 1969 Western "The Wild Bunch:"

"Matanlos !!!"

(Kill Him !)

A couple of years ago, I was tired of seeing FrankenTVs like this, so I staged a silly tableau showing how I "de-engineered" a junky Sears color TV by sliding my restored RCA 14-S-7070G into the cabinet.

I had intended to list it as a joke auction on eBay, with comments like, "Includes original remote control!" . But then I realized that some numbskull probably would bid on it :-)

Pretty droll piece of work there.... :D

I had one of that model RCA set back in the early '70s. Instead of the ringlets on the top which presumably had a leather handle running through them mine had a plastic handle that affixed with screws underneath inside the shell. I also remember that I was storing this set with a bunch of boxes of electronic goodies on the landing of the second floor, right near my younger brother's bedroom door. I pulled the set out in front of his door in quest of a part for a project I was building, and forgot to remove the set from the doorway and put it backin front of the parts boxes. My brother got all pissy about it, and vowed if I did that again he'd take the set and throw it down the stairs. (Oh he would, would he?!) So I unsleeved the set, removed the screws holding the handle, resleeved the set and affixed the handle with double-stick tape. And left the set in his doorway again. He claimed he threw his back out when he went to yank up on the handle to heave the set, and came away with only the handle. :D
