New Zealand Radios

I've recently added a section on my site devoted to transistor radios manufactured in New Zealand during the 1950's and 1960's; there are some real beauties! I've lots more to add, its just a matter of finding time!

:lurk:

I love old radios, especially am/sw.

So I'll be hanging out here for awhile.

Do you ever see Zenith Trans-Oceanics down there ? One Boatanchor you might wanna keep an eye out for is a Collins R-391, a military shortwave set that is almost legendary in its R-390 version. R-391s are rare, only about 1300 or so made in the early '50s, & for some reason, R-391s have surfaced mainly in Australia/NZ. The only real difference between the 2 sets is that the 391 has an Autotune mechanism. Anyhow, GREAT site & collection !

Thanks Ray! When I started putting this site together I wanted it to be entertaining and informative and I've spent literally hundreds of hours cleaning, repairing, polishing, photographing, researching and listing my collection! I knew this stuff would be of interest to collectors who wanted more in depth information, collectors who are not satisfied with just a 'photo & a sentence'.

I still have half my current collection to list :)

Hi Sandy, I have a couple of Trans-Oceanics, a 500h from 1951 and a Royal 7000 from 1970. They are awesome radios! I also have that book on the history of the Trans-Oceanic that everybody else seems to have ;)

I will keep my eyes peeled for a Collins, they sound damn cool!
