That looks just like one I have. If it's like mine, it's an early solid state B/W set. Probably from the late 60's. Someone syhould grab it. I haven't seen a lot of them floating around. I would but it's too far away and with all the sets
I've recently accumulated I wouldn't have the room. My collection recently went from 11 sets to over 100 virtually overnight.

I too believe it's solid state. I had a metal cabinet version of that set from the late '70's. The knobs and control layout were identical to this one. I have not seen too many solid state large screen B&W sets. Several years ago, a friend found a '78 or '79 Truetone (built by Admiral) B&W console.

That is a RARE bird!!!! I had heard of that last-gasp B&W console, but this is the first one I've seen. It's as rare as the late 80s Zenith B&W portable with digital tuning. Only ever seen one of those.

I went out to the shed and looked at mine, and I have the same set. It's from the mid to late 70's and is as rare as hens' teeth. Mine's not quite as
nice-looking as this one, though. It has a few dings and scratches and IIRC
the CRT is dead.

I have a tube-chassis version from the late 60s-Zenith sourced the crt from Sylvania-their picture tubes never seemed to hold up as well as the Zenith/Rauland built ones.

While this b&w set is interesting and invites comment, this thread should be in the rectangular/solid state forum. I've noticed lately that several threads posted here are either not early color or deal with much later color sets. I guess 70's and 80's color sets do seem vintage to some younger collectors. Where should the cut off be for "early" color receivers?

I say '65 sounds good. After that, most sets are rectangular and they had more transistors by then too.

If 65 is the cut off, I guess that gives me the boot. I have a 1969 Sylvania.

No one is looking to give any forum member the boot.
It just seems that we should establish some guidelines. I remember that this forum was established, I believe, to enable those members that own, collect or just have an interest in color tv's roundie period, 1953-1969(?) as well as any earlier color wheel and other early color technology and related info could post here. There are several other AK forums to deal with other types of tv's. I just thought when I read the thread on a 70's era 21" b&w set posted here, that it was time to speak up. Any and all opinions, pro & con, on this are welcome. Moderator Chad, any thoughts on this?

No boot from me either, sorry if it sounded that way. I just figured that the sets we are talking about would fit better into the Rectangular and Solid-State forum. Just my two cents

When I posted this listing, I had no idea it was a black and white set.

When it comes to color sets, people have different opinions on what a vintage color set is.

My idea of "Vintage" is any color set built before 1970.

Accidents happen, at first glance it does look like a color set. I was also thinking '65 is too early, maybe '69 would be better since I have heard of a '69 roundie. They were the "economy" sets of the later '60s. But hey, what do I know! LOL!

Since the other thread is "rectangular" I think it is safe to lump any "square corner" sets in there. Not a big deal to me. Sometimes there is overlapping, such as when someone finds 2 sets from different eras. I suspect nearly all of us read all 3 TV forums. Just don't want things to get too sloppy.

I too wondered if it was color or bw at first. There are a few out there that can fool you.
