Colorful Transistors?

I have this (rather beat up looking) AITC AM tabletop transistor radio, works well, runs from 120VAC. Thing is, the transistors are colored (one is painted, the others wrapped in a plastic covering. I removed one of the plastic covers to look for part numbers, but didn't find one. Has anyone else ever come across a radio with rather colorful transistors?

Used to see paint dots on the tops of transistors in portable radios. Probably presorted for easier identification during assembly.

i seen in '70 portable radios this kind of identification expecially on philips brand

I had a ugly leather covered portable that was falling apart that had transistors like that. they were little metal cans that were painted. It sounds like a cheap way of controlling proprietary knowledge. You would have to contact the company and order another red, yellow or green transistor as no one else knew what it was. Logan

I just remembered that while the radio was beyond repair, I salvaged the transistors. Here is a picture of them and there is no writing of any kind on the cases. just paint, Logan
