Air Chief Makes intense buzzing
I've got a real nice looking Firestone Air Chief. My first experience with tube radio. It was missing two of the sound tubes and I just replaced them. I know the sound works because of the buzzing but how do I go about fixing the problem? I have all original documents if it's helpful.
Thanks, George |
It needs the electrolytic capacitors in the power supply replaced. These capacitors are polarized; so, make sure you don't wire the new ones in backwards.
While you're in there, replace all the wax paper capacitors. These are non-polarized so don't worry about which way the new ones go in. |
How about posting a photo of it?
That would be a nice thing to do.

I'd agree on the capacitors. The electrolytics are your buzzing noise. The paper ones should also be replaced, since they're not the most reliable things and after 60+ years, they're destined for failure sooner rather than later.
