Need advice on how to pack TVs
 

Hello. I have these three TV sets, and we are going to make a long trip. The two table models ( the Admiral and the GE ) I will put in the luggage compartiment of the bus I will be traveling in. The Philco console will be transported by plane. The distance we will be covering is one of approximately 700 kilometers. I will be on the road on Monday, so if someone could give me some tips till Sunday I would be most grateful.

What I have done when shipping TV's is to remove the chassis and tuner from the cabinet, leaving only the picture tube and speaker. I packed the cabinet full of foam rubber around the picture tube and put the back on...then wrapped the outside of the cabinet in foam rubber and put it in a box.

I removed all of the tubes and knobs from the chassis and packed them in a seperate box, protecting the tubes by wrapping them in grocery bags. This box, plus the chassis, I put in another box packed with foam rubber.

If you are going in a bus and can load and unload the sets yourself, it probably would suffice to pack them whole in boxes padded with foam rubber. The method I mentioned above is when shipping by UPS, etc. where packages might get dropped of a truck or tumble around in a distribution area.
It seems like the main cause of damage to sets in transit is where the chassis breaks loose and slams into the picture tube...breaking chassis tubes and possibly causing picture tube damage.

Probably for shipping the console, you could fasten the bottom of the set to a pallet, wrapping the sides of the set in foam rubber and covering it with cardboard. This would ensure the set always went right side up.

Hello, sorry to change the subject but I was wondering if you had any extra Philco parts for sets like your console. I have a table model of the same thing. Mine is 1956. Yours may be 1955 or 4. That is no matter as I need the plastic trim plate and small penny sized knobs underneath. I think I have a whole set waiting on me possibly up here closer to home. I am waiting to hear something on that. Just where you talked of moving I thought it wouldnt hurt to see if you were unloading extra weight.
