Marconi model 224
 

Hi ,wondering if anyone has any info on the Marconi model 224. Would this make a good tube amp if restored and upgraded? I located one that is still clean and intact except for the giant copper spool holder. Copper is there, and a big tangled mess,just the holder is gone.It's the thing located to the left if facing the rear of the chassis. Tubes all seem to be intact as well. The cabinet is in ok shape for it's age ,but is the amp itself worth the effort and $$$ to have someone turn it into a 80 watt amp for vinyl playback.Any info would be of help. The cabinet is similar to the Electrohome 218b.I'll try get some pix if I can.Thanx in advance for any info.....:scratch2:

What is this unit supposed to be? An amplifier, a radio, a tape- or wire-recorder?
The big copper spool holder you are mentioning is most surprising, what is it
exactly? Also, is this a Canadian Marconi unit, or some British made device?

It is/was a short wave radio console.Most likely a canadian unit.Maybe it had a record changer too??? A 10" or 12" speaker. More to come.......

1947 model, 5 tubes so it's a pretty basic AM radio. 6K6 output tube can do 2-3 watts. Record player has been replaced - the plywood mounting board isn't original.
