That set works pretty good... even without the power cord! :D

I like the way the artist included the lit heaters on the 5U4's... very good detail! Who's the artist anyway? He should do some more! Was this something from many years ago in a book or magazine, or was this recently created?

I've seen this photo somewhere else, but slightly different. On this photo, there is a CBS tag hanging from the back of the set. The other I've seen does not have the tag.

Ed Sullivan color tv ad
 

Actually, it's an ad for the CBS Columbia 19" model 205 color receiver. 2 pages in full color. The ad appears in the Oct. 18, 1954 issue of Life Magazine. It may have been in other magazines of the day.

Was this set ever offered to the public? I can't say as though I've seen any that exist today...

This set was marketed by CBS Columbia starting in late '54. It sold for $1,100. I guess CBS had trouble selling them. This same model is still listed in their 1956 brochure. The ad also lists an open face console for $1000. and a table model for $950. I don't think these models were ever manufactured. The set is listed in SAMS folder 293-2 as model 205C1 & 205C2. I believe this indicates the mahogany and blonde finishes. Anyone have this SAMS to varify this?:dunno:

Wow great pics!!! That TV show on the screen would have to be Toast Of Town when it did a colourcast 22nd August 1954 as the bloke in the center looks like Ed Sullivan! Plus ironically the fact the TV is a CBS and Toast Of The Town (Ed Sullivan Show) was the top notch show of the 50s that show is got to be Toast Of The Town.

The picture was well done, looks very photographic for a graphic design!

I thought that "CBS" manufactured only seqvencyal fyeld color tv.

CBS sequential color
 

CBS did manufacturer field sequential color sets for a brief time in 1951. This was through their consumer electronics division: CBS-Columbia. The sets were short lived as they were not compatible with b&w sets. CBS-Columbia later in 1954 produced and sold a 15" NTSC color set followed by a 19" version. The division hung on in to the 60's but was never a major competitor to the likes of RCA, Zenith ect.
