Y'know, I've wondered why our government has mandated a complete conversion to HDTV without also mandating a special environmental program to deal with the influx of "trash" TVs their first mandate has created? :scratch2:

Wow, I think I even see some Sony Pro monitors in that mess.

Remember the late, lamented Brit TV show "Secret Life of Machines"? Remember the one he did on "tellies", & how at the end he set a wall of barely-functioning TVs on fire, & the program closed out w/credits rolling as they slowly spazzed out ? Mbwahahahaha..That would be the only real use for these, I'm thinkin'...

That's a good point. I found myself needing to get rid of close to 150 television sets back about 10 years ago. Even at that time disposal would cost about $15-25 per unit. Fortunately there was a an independently-funded collection drive at the local university, and I got rid of the lot at no cost. I got together with a friend and my girlfriend, and between us we managed to get all the sets carted there in my gf's Dodge Caravan, my friend's Ram truck and my '53 Dodge pickup truck. All vehicles jammed full of sets from the '50s, '60s and '70s--including about 25 color roundies.... As a convoy heading from Plainfield to Amherst we turned a number of heads. Needless to say this all took several trips.

I hope and trust that the organization involved knew how to properly dispose of these sets--especially the ones with the highly poisonous polychrome CRTs.

As prices go this warehouse pictured shows a liability of about 20 grand--if not more....

So let me get this straight; Are they offering the winning bidder $799 to haul those away?

Whats going to become of all the sets with no real value?? Its true, in the future, environmental laws will get much stricter when it comes to e-waste (especially CRTs!)

So, one day when I want to find a '79 Daewoo (:D) they'll all be landfill....
