Take a look at this capacitor and riddle me this...

My father went up to ye olde electronics store yesterday to pick me up some .1 uF 600V caps yesterday, but I'm not sure if these will work. The old caps in this 1937 Silvertone are polarized, these don't appear to be, unless the "C" on the right hand side stands for "common". This is the best shot I could get before the morning coffee ;)
So will this work? :confused: |
That band on the old cap is, as I recall, simply an indicator of which end is the outside foil. This was only significant when using caps in sensitive circuit locations, like RF filters, where you would always connect the outside foil to the lowest potential - e.g. ground.
I wouldn't worry about any of this in your application - these are not electrolytics and do not have a voltage polarity. Paul |
It is as M...2004 says. The old cap is not polarized in the sense that an electrolytic is, despite the banding. You're all set, Tim.
