1952? DuMont on eBay

Yes it's a later rectangular set but it looks pretty nice (some bad finish), and $80 BIN.
Comes with the original receipt and booklet.
I want to know what the rectangular brass thing is under the knobs?

Eric:

That's the pencil box that hides the secondary controls.

Looks like '52 is a good guess. Could even be '51, since DuMont was already making the 30" tube by then.

Even further for me. And I live in Michigan.

Ahhhh. Those DuMonts.

I have a soft spot in my heart for those.

I kinda like the soft green tube and bezel.

Alas, too far away.

How difficult would it be to find a replacement tube for this set? I don't seem to recall coming across too many early 50's 19" crts.

Not rectangular ones anyway! I think 19" is probably based on a measurement of the screen taken by the seller. Looks like a 21"er to me.

Is this set worth going for? or is it just a "cheap" Du Mont, made after they cut manufacturing costs?

Tubejunke 03-11-2009 11:38 PM

I wouldnt call it "cheap", but it certainly is past what I consider the golden era of the monolithic Dumonts, the mid to late '40's. I am fairly certain that the cheaply made Dumonts were up around the late 1950's.

If I had room, and the set was in driving distance, I would jump on it...
