Grundig and SABA

Hello there,

What is the link, if any, between SABA and Grundig? What are the histories of each company?

I don't know of any particular link other than both were leading German consumer electronic manufacturers until the late 1960s except that I believe Grundig made a hostile and unsuccessful takeover bid for Saba in 1967 during the scramble around the beginnings of color TV production in Germany (I believe Sylvania took over Saba in the late 60's - or at least bought out its TV production).

Saba is a much older company while Grundig was founded on 1945. I believe Saba was involved in war production and had its main factories destroyed by the allies. It wasn't able to resume radio production again until 1947.

Grundig is now owned by a Turkish company while I believe Saba was eventually acquired by the Thompson group.

My information is sketchy at best and may not be entirely correct.

I'd suggest having a look on http://www.radiomuseum.org/ and maybe asking some of its members. I guarantee the history of both is well known there.

There is no link; SABA was a Pre-War firm, GRUNDIG was started in 1945 by Max Grundig as a Company that would "ape" the top-flight Saba products........both had big Market shares in domestic and export products.
