Stupidity

US$ 100.00???? For a really not rare TV with a BUSTED CRT and a missing speaker??? I don't think so!!!

I know that in the US those Admiral sets are not rare; even here, in Brazil, where they are not very easy to find, I was able to buy that same model ( with an INTACT CRT, but also, coincidently, with a missing speaker ) for LESS money than this guy is asking for!!!

I paid US$ 90.00 for mine, to be more precise; and again, the CRT on mine is INTACT. For Brazilian standards, I paid a cheap price, because TVs of that vintage usually sell for considerably more here... they are not easy to find here, specially if you are outside the city of São Paulo.

I would like to bid on this TV because I need the right side control door, which is missing on mine, but... a hundred dollars... it is waaayyy out of question, at least for a piece in that condition!!!

You could make them an offer for less. They have a bunch of other stuff for sale from the same estate. This admiral is a much better deal for the same price IMHO:http://cgi.ebay.com/Antique-1950s-Ad...3%3A1|294%3A50

I asked the seller to see if he would send me just the control door. Let's wait to see his answer.

Correction

The door that is missing on mine is the LEFT, not the right side door.

He has several sets listed, none of them worth the opening bid in the condition they are in.

The tall console is a 26R12. I have one of those. Nice set...

Gee I wonder what lake they were stored in for the last 50 yrs. Those look worst than the Admiral I fixed up a few yrs back.

Well, the 26R12 sold for $70. It is a nice set but the chassis is very rusty.

truetone36 05-16-2009 08:24 PM

I could use the tuner knob, but not for anywhere near $100.

That's what I paid for the General Electric 10T4 , and it had some raster .
I was looking at that set , then I noticed the CRT was junk .
Even with a good CRT the price is too high considering the condition of the chassis .
Lots of work to do on it , and it would never be 100%

No kidding. I didn't notice that when I first glanced at the 26R12 listing. I've had some success removing rust with naval jelly, but I wouldn't want to tackle these sets.

Here's my Admiral from a few year back. It was pretty rough.

Outstanding job! I've got a 20X122 in need of some TLC too, but nothing like that. What did you use to remove the rust and polish the bakelite? I've tried Brasso, Novus polish and even a little toothpaste :) They all work OK, but I'm not getting quite the shine I'm looking for.

On the chaiss I took off all of the easy stuff to get off. Masked the tube socket and hit it with a wire wheel. Then a coat or two of gray hammertone paint. The cabinet I used this spray stuff I got from AES. The stuff has a lot of silicon in really slippery.

Maybe that was Glayzit ? I recently got some from radiodaze. It smells like a nasty combo of coconut and gasoline, but works great :thmbsp:
