Just Picked Up
 

I just picked up the following:

1. Emerson - mid 1930's & 2 band

2. Firestone Air Chief - measures 26" x 14" x 12". It's huge. Has 7 bands.

From the same house I also got a Heathkit TC-2 tube checker, a Magnovox tuner and amplifier that was pulled out of a console, and some books.

The Emerson is cool, with those big tubes. The air chief is my fav though. :D

That's a really cool Air Chief, looks like it might be an export model, what with the numerous short wave bands and the universal power transformer.

The band switch on the rear of the Emerson is pretty cool too. I think Emerson did that with a number of their smaller sets. Good haul all the way around!

You're probably correct that it is an export model.

The Air Chief is model number 4A39. The only place I can find any information on this model is in Riders Volume 20.

As far as the Emerson, they made many similar models in the 1934 to 1936 time period. I don't know yet which model number this is.

Emerson made a number of "cute" radios in the '30's that are desirable and this is certainly one of them. The Air Chief looks to be in fine shape and once gone over electrically and cleaned up a bit ought to be great for SWL since it has the major SW broadcast frequencies as spread bands, like a TO.
