E. H. Scott Console Radio Phonograph model??
 

I'm trying to identify the model of an E. H. Scott Console radio with 78RPM record changer in the top. Photos of the radio appear as attachments. (I haven't photographed the changer but I can if someone needs it.) The serial number is NN-209 but I haven't seen any lists of number series on the web and the radio seems to have no model number on the cabinet interior or either chassis. Any suggestions will be welcome. thanx.

Looks vaguely similar to my model 800-B...I THINK they made a model 500, as well...Prolly postwar. Does it have FM on it, & if so, is it the 40Mc band or the 88-108 version ?

It looks like a Scott Phantom or Phantom deluxe. I have never seen a phantom series with a preset auto tune. Did this radio come with the wired remote control? It is definitely a pre-war radio around 1934-36, notice the speaker grill design a pre-nazi swastika, made when it was only a good luck symbol. Logan

Scott Phantom,remote control was a option.I say its post war or just befor.All my books on Scott dont show that cabinet tho.May well be post war set when Scott was sold.Number of tubes would help .Sprman

The set does NOT have FM. I covers AM and 3 bands of SW. There is a large multi-pin jack in the rear of the tuner chassis which may well be for wired remote control. The amplifier features octal tubes. I'll have to pull the chassis to get an accurate tube count because there's too much in the way to see from the rear. Meanwhile, I'll do some research on the Phantom and Phantom deluxe to see how close this is. Thanx for the input and any additional clues will certainly be welcome.

Looks like its a AM Phantom that replaced the 6 knob Phantom,it should have 19 tubes total.Clues are 7 knobs, no loging scale and 19 tubes,no telivison band and 2 lines in middle of the dial scale around SCOTT.There are 6 variations of the Phantom.Am Phantom was introduced late 1938.Cabinet looks to be Roslyn/Roslyn Grande about 67.00 to 113.00,radio was about 180.00 to 190.00. Anice set clean it up recap it ect.Sprman : )

That's close to a one-of-a-kind. The remote is very rare and the attractive Oriental theme in the cabinet may be unique. The turntable could help you to date the radio, since these designs were changing almost yearly in the late Thirties. Also, Astatic put manufacturing dates on its cartridges. I'd like to know what is the final ID of the set.

SPRMAN55 is correct. My information indicates a '38 (19 tubes,) or '39 (20 tubes,) Phantom (the '40 would include FM) in a Roslyn Grand cabinet. Definitely a nice set! Best, David

I own a retail stereo store and have a reputation for buying things so someone came in with the Scott in the back of his pickup and wanted to sell it. Needless to say, I bought. I didn't ask where he got it but I suspect he had a job cleaning out a barn and got to keep anything he wanted.
