Good thing I like Japanese stuff:D I want a '50s Moto color set more than just about anything else. I am just about as big of a Motorola fan as I am Zenith, they made many great sets and stereos. That deal they had with Drexel made the quality go to another level, That furniture feels different to the touch than machined pieces. Hand made is always the best. Motorola wired point to point well into the 60's when everyone else was using boards for everything. Motorola Quasar is when they lost their magic, along with most others in the outsourcing 70s that led to the demise of all the great companies and to the crap we have today but that is another topic.

I never knew that Motorola had a deal with Drexel Furniture. I have lots of Drexel furniture, including my master bedroom from 1959. You're right that the quality is excellent. 50 years and every drawer slides like new, the hardware is solid brass and the workmanship is amazing. I'm wondering what the Drexel cabinets for Motorola looked like? During what years did they have this deal?

They did it through the 50's and 60's, I'm not sure of the exact dates but in this time frame. Here is my '62 Moto stereo in a Drexel cabinet:http://www.audiokarma.org/forums/sho...d.php?t=169924
I have seen the tv cabinets too and they all are of the same amazing quality. The finish on these is all hand rubbed, or so it says in the manual for the cabinet. Yes, the cabinet has a separate care manual from the stereo.

Very nice, Grimer! Lots of character in Moto sets from that era.

One of my wife's cousins has a stereo the same age as yours, zenithfan1. Different cabinet style, but still Drexel. It's in her dining room and most folks would never guess it was a stereo. Still works-a few years ago while we were visiting I tinkered with the phono (needed some oil) and shot some cleaner in some noisy controls.
