Zenith X334 saved from destruction

Got a call today from a friend who was working at a house in a nearby town. He says he has something I might be interested in. So I drove the 40 or so miles to see what this was all about. He shows me this Zenith X334..from around '66 or '67 I believe. He says he found it in the attic wrapped in fiberglass insulation in a paper shopping bag from a long defunct super market. Turns out the house he was working in was being gutted and is going to be burned by the local fire dept. for practice. The condition of this radio is remarkable. The cabinet is almost perfect, the chrome plating on the knobs is intact, has all the original Zenith tubes I think, and sounds fantastic. Just a few wrinkles in the grill cloth. I estimated that it might have been stored for about 30 years..that's how long the super market has been out of business. Strange what people do with some things.

Nice! I think the "x" line was from the '67 model year; however, the radio could have been built in late '66. This is one of the later Zenith AM/FM tube radios.

I wonder how it ended up in a attic, wrapped up and hidden? It is in really nice condition!

I bet it was wrapped up and hidden in the attic because it was hot.

Anything is possible. I love the mystery of how things like this happen. He noted that it was barely visible sitting between the studs. When the former occupants moved out, why was this left? I'm sure there were other items stored up there that they took.
