Stromberg-Carlson

So a friend knows I'm into vintage audio so he sends me these for any info. From what I gather it was in his family for quite some time and now he has it. He's not selling, just curious. And after seeing the pictures I am too.

There should be a label with model number inside - maybe on the side behind the antenna drum. I'd guess it's a 1941 model from the style of the dial (and since I don't see it in a 1940 brochure...). It must have spent some time in my neck of the woods (Western NY) with the Buffalo and Canadian station presets.

His family is from St. Catherines and Niagara Falls area, hence the NY and Canadian stations.

Thnaks for the info, I'll see if he can find a model # - kinda looked like a '930L from the '38 catalogue.

Yeah, the giant 25 Hz transformer was another clue... Buffalo was 25 Hz until the '50s.

I think it might be Canadian model 674 or 694 from 1946 - service information is on my Stromberg page: http://www.audiophool.cjb.net/MadeInRoch.html

You are probably right on that canadian model #

My friend says he has the original Bill Of Sale from T.Eaton Co.

I will get the date from him this week. Can't wait to drive down for a visit and see if she powers up.

Thanks for the help.

Mark Stein's Pre-War Console book has a picture of a Canadian Stromberg Carlson model 75L or 75M (c.1941) that appears to be a dead ringer.

Online? URL? I'm not very familiar with the radio world I'm afraid. But it sure is cool.

(Mark V.) Stein has authored eight different antique radio photo price guides. "The Complete Price Guide to Antique Radios: Pre-War Consoles" was published in 2000. Amazon should have it. Plenty of good reading if you like pictures...
