My new old admiral tv!!
 

Well couldn't pass this one up this weekend for a 20$ bill. I wonder if this one will end up better then my philco miss america? recapped that whole set, tested the tubes and still all I get is good sound. I will try to get this guy powered up to see if I get a picture...but first I have to find one of those antenna to cable do dads...thank you dtv conversion. Its in nice shape besides the simi melted screen and knob missing, has the original back too.

Ok tv God's what the heck has been done to this admiral?? I had these great ideas of after it was cleaned up and put on a variac I would get a picture and then I can do the recap and would have a great little piece of history...why do I always get the butchered ones :tears::tears::tears:

What's the tube's # ? Maybe it got a later verison sync seperator.

Looks like someone's done some handywork in there .
Why they would bother is another story ?
all the original tubes are easy enough to get , so I don't understand what they were trying to do .
What tube is subbed in there under the chassis the 12AU7 ?
What tube is disconnected ?
This might be the same tube as a original , but the tube socket cracked , so it got wired up under there rather than drilling out the rivets and properly .
The thing that we must take into consideration is that most likely when this TV was last "repaired" it was of little value , so you can expect to see these kinds of shortcuts every so often as alot of customers only wanted to spend a few bucks on the repair or get a new set .

Might be a pretty simple fix by reconnecting the wires on to a properly mounted socket .
Don't think you got a dud just because you didn't get a picture .
Those caps are about 60 years old , alot of sets are dead like that , and come back to life with just a recap .

Actually, that chassis looks to be in pretty decent shape aside from the odd tube stuck in. Also, you're missing a couple metal plates around the RF/IF amp - unless you took them off before taking the pics.

The tube under the chassis is a 12BH7, it looks pretty burnt up too.
Doesn't appear that any of the tubes are disconnected or missing.
Nothing looks to be burnt just very dusty, will examine closer.
I am not thinking that, I was thinking I wouldn't get a picture because of the strange repair/add on. So I didn't even attempted to plug it in. Once the stuff is put back to original I will try to power it up.

Nope they are MIA. I seen that photo, I guess what I will do is take the laptop in the other room by the tv and start putting things back to where they should be. I am thinking this stuff was added in to connect the tv to some kind of accessory or radio or something.

I'm restoring a very similar looking chassis (20X1) right now too. It's also missing those metal plates.

I'd say my chassis was in worse condition than yours. So, if I can get mine going I'm sure you can too :thmbsp:

At least the butchery on your set is plain to see. On my Hallicrafters 505, a previous owner had neatly cannibalized the sound takeoff coil and two peaking coils. I had been happily recapping for a while, but mysteriously had no audio or video output. After poking around, I finally had a "what's missing from this picture" moment. Duh!
