Trying to figure out what it was...

Hi all. About 5 years ago I passed by an old-looking radio/tv shop and asked my usual questions(do you have tube gear?! roundies!? :]) anyway the man dug out a battery-powered radio that he claimed was from the 30s. It was massive, had about 6 tubes on the chassis and was all black. As I recall it used a conventional transformer as it was ac/dc and then there were 3 other large transformers (not IF cans) on the chassis. This is the part that don't make sense to me, since it was not stereo, and had no inputs. So 1 output tx and no input tx's....he didn't have the battery pack and I knew very little at that time so I passed it up. Think he wanted 50 bucks for it, condition unknown and history unknown! Bet it came with the shop since he was not an elderly guy...

Thinkin' maybe I should go back.....
