Replacing TV coax connector: tip

I had a TV where the coax connector was worn and the center conductor of the cable wouldn't make reliable contact. I didn't have another chassis type connector on hand so used a double male coax coupler. The RF input line on the chassis was soldered to a short piece of wire the same size as the center conductor of coax. The coupler was mounted in the same hole as the old connector, with hex nuts threaded on both sides and the length of threads adjusted outside to match the old connector. The wire inside was pushed into the center hole of the coupler with just about 1/4" left exposed. Coax connected outside as normal. Works great.
