Dumont Club RA102
Cool - never seen one of these before. Wonder what the reserve is :scratch2:

I've only seen vintage photos of one of these. A great piece, I think. I wonder if they sold these at a discount for the advertising? Or maybe they didn't charge at all? They had to get some sales out of them. Pity the guys who had to lift this baby up on a high shelf!

It uses the same chassis as the Clifton model. The Clifton used a 12" CRT and the Club had a 15" CRT. Good 15" Dumont CRTs are a tough find nowadays. The club came in either Gray or Walnut and the list price was $1095. The chassis' slide out from the hinged front to make servicing, and installation, easier.

I imagine that beast is heavily encased in nicotene...

DuMont Club
These are quite rare...I'm a couple miles from the DuMont production factories in East Paterson and Clifton, NJ, and I've only owned 2 or 3 of these since the 1980s! Of course, I've only owned 1 Clifton....so this is not the most rare DuMont.
I sold a grey Club on ebay in 2006, for $595...but I suspect they're worth twice that by now. However, sometimes people set very high reserves... we'll see... |
Funny that a 16DP4 is only 3/8" larger in diameter. I used to know a guy who had 3 NOS RCA 16DP4s. Prolly still does.

That's a couple of 807 tubes. Horizontal Deflection Circuit.

HV is generated by an RF supply on the separate power chassis using another 807 as a pulse amplifier.

That huge oil filled can capacitor, do they usually last this long? Or, do they need to be replaced...

I just saw that TV in person in CT last night. I bought a Crosley 8-407M for parts and drove over to pick it up.
The Dumont bar TV is impressive and huge! I was amazed at the front cover to keep people from touching the controls with the very prominent advertising. It also has FM as a lot of Dumonts do and AM as well from a seperate tuner and dial. The case is in nice shape, some dirt, a couple of small paint spatters and 2 cigarette burns as the seller noted. Supposed to weigh around 350lbs. It's actually bowing the dolley it is on. The seller is named Ed Dessau. He is getting out of the TV hobby, had 410 classic sets and is down to the last 20 or 30 after selling on Ebay and to local collectors. He still has amazing one of a kind sets to list in the next few months and some repair supplies. As much as my eyes drooled and he offered me some deals I am out of space and out of cash so I had to pass. |
If I had room (and a Forklift) I'd love to have this set.
I'd restore the electronics but would consider it sacrilege to refinish the cabinet and erase the Cigarette burns, that is part of it's history as a Tavern set. |
