Cool combo, or pig's ear in Chinese cabinet?
 

Anything notable about the TV in this combo, or is it (as I suspect) a humdrum 1949 set? Owner sez it's an Admiral 4H18 Chinese, 1949 according to tvhistory.tv .

Nice! Is that a 12" round CRT with a rectangular mask or perhaps a 14" rectangular CRT?

According to the sales brochure it is a 12 1/2 inch set. Phil, if you get it and want a scan of the brochure let me know.

Thanks, but I've got no room for a combo unless it had something truly thrilling inside.

I suspect anybody could get this one for a smile and a candy bar, but . . . where to put such things?

I hear ya. I've been watching this combo less than a mile from me steadily drop in price. I expect they'll be giving it away soon.

I'd shoot 'em a email, just so you have a way to contact them, when they respond. I wonder why Admiral decided to put the TV on the left?

The tube on that set looks pretty large... do you know what it is? Apparently Admiral used a 16AP4 with a rectangular mask in a few of these early sets. I have a (very used) RCA made example that has a visible rectangular phosphor burn that is clearly stamped "Admiral"

What all does that label say? It looks like it says to handle the CRT by it's neck. Just curious.

That Admiral uses the 21C1 chassis which could use a 16KP4, 16TP4, 19AP4 or 20CP4.

Both combos appear to have the identical r/p. Do they also share the same TV, only with different cosmetics?

Yours (the topic of this thread) is a bit earlier - check out the four TV knobs.

The chassis used in those sets do support the 16AP4 so that may be what's in your set despite tvhistory.tv stating it's a 12".

The set I posted is a 1950 model with a somewhat newer CRT and has only two of the newer style knobs.

Despite my fore-mentioned lack of interest, I did actually contact the seller yesterday evening and am going to check it out later today.
I still have no intention of dragging it home, but maybe if the CRT is worthwhile I can talk him into selling just that to me.
He says he's only been using it as a piece of furniture for the last 15 years and is selling it as such.

He don't need a CRT for that, but my Sentinel 430 could sure use one :D

That is a cute little Admiral. I have the same chassis in a bakelite console. Mine is 16"...

Well I came home empty handed. It was listed for months with no takers and when I final express some interest, someone beats me to it by 10 minutes !

It was certainly 16" and the cabinet was in really nice shape. The woman who did get it swore she wouldn't 'fishtank it' :)

If you don't mind a little drive, I know where you can find one with a black Chinese cabinet.
