I would suspect that this one of the first kits Heath made. Dating 1948 is very early for Heath.

Hell, that's something I would have probably left where I found it. You never know...

Heathkit collectors will pay crazy money for early stuff...and that little radio certainly qualifies.

Those little xtal sets bring a good buck too!

Found this comment on another forum about an earlier eBay listing.
"Heathkits are relatively common. Millions were made, but not all. There is one Heathkit that is so rare, you should have to pay admission JUST to see it. It is the Heathkit K2 receiver, made in about 1948-1949. Unknown how many were sold, but very very few. The Heathkit AR-1 replaced it shortly, and was a more substantial receiver." "But it won't go cheap. In fact, this may go for HUNDREDS, as it is indeed the most sought after and rarest Heathkit product ever made." from: http://forums.qrz.com/showthread.php?t=217093 I think that if I had seen one in a box of junk at a swap meet, I would have passed it up also. Now that I know, that will not happen in the future! jr |
