Wrong end of the country for me otherwise it's small and interesting enough that I might have placed a bid.

No kidding. There are at least 5 color 50s sets up for sale in CA right now!

wow, what a beauty!

I've always wanted that cabinet, and I've had most all of the other versions of CTC-5. I'm bidding on it, but won't be aiming anywhere near $1K.

That sure is purdy, I always liked the Mahogany version.

bandersen 01-20-2010 06:04 PM

Huh - he pulled the auction. Now it's only BIN or make an offer.

miniman82 01-21-2010 09:25 AM

He's dreaming at that price...

I have the mahogany version; I'd like to think they were consistently worth a grand. I could see a very nice example going for that, under the right circumstances. For instance, if the crt were known good. I'd want some more pics.

You're closer than I am, go for it! :D

That's what we get for chatting about the sets.

People get a little excited about it and suddenly the seller thinks "ahh, I can really get some bucks now" and jacks the price. The set probably would have gone there or close to that price...maybe even over if it had been left alone to grow organically.

Ugh. What a pain.

I agree with you in general, but not so sure about that in this case. The original listing did also have a BIN of $1,000. I believe that was pulled before a single bid was placed.

Kinda silly really. Why not just left the auction in place with a reserve ?

I had a bid on it for $250, which was canceled automatically when he pulled it. The reason he gave was "item no longer for sale". I get soured when those things happen, so I'd be more inclined to pay double whatever I might have bid up to on that one, to someone else. Matter of principle. When I list on eBay, it runs its course, and I just politely answer all the eMails saying so, when they ask me to end early and sell. When you've been collecting TVs for 30+ years as I have, you know there are more fish in the sea, and there's no need to put yourself in a position to be a puppet or for aggravation.
