name that connector?
the fm antenna connection on my nordmende and on other german radios i've seen connects to what looks like a miniature dual banana plug on the built in antenna...the connections to the radio itself for both am and fm are small square holes...with the idea of hooking up some external antenna to this radio i've been trying to find out what it is i need to use for this...and not only can i find no ready made connectors but honestly no reference to just what type of connector this even is..does it have a name?it seems not to be something one can buy...but that being the case what type of pin connector is typically used for these?anyone run into this and have any advice on what works?

For this thread I gotta say it:
:worthless |
I remember a discussion about this I think on ARF. I believe the conclusion was that you could use individual banana plugs for the two connections.

I'm pretty sure banana plugs would be too large..and a speaker pin connector probably slightly too small...as i said the original connector looks like a dual banana...but smaller, roughly about 3/4 of the size, the size of the pins included! |
I think there are some mini-bananas: let me look in my stuff tomorrow.
|
I found these mini banana  plugs. The insertion depth is about 1/2 inch / 1.2 cm., and the diameter of the plug at the widest point is about 3/16 inch / 4mm. Unscrew the plastic barrel and solder the connection inside. If you think you could use these, tell me how many you need and PM me a snail mail address, no charge. Will I or you have any problem with customs? Value is nada.

thanks Reece thats a very generous offer...but still too big,tho i think i've seen the type of connection you're thinking of...unfortunately it's not that...dang i loaned my camera to someone and need to get it back!!
i just pulled out the measuring tape and i think my estimate of 3/4 regular size was a bit on the generous side...spacing of the pins is just slightly over 1 cm[approx .5"]the pins themselves have a squared profile approx 2mm by 3mm and about 1 cm long...if that helps anyone id this |
If it helps:
Dual Miniature Banana jacks are spaced at .5" / 12.7mm (vice .75" / 19mm for regular Banana Jacks), and the miniature banana plugs are are designed to fit a nominal .125" diameter hole (~3.1mm) vice .180" for the regular banana plugs. Cheers, |
