I can't say that I care for the color much, but the paint seems to have been applied to the raw cabinet before the grille cloth and CRT bezel were installed... note the nameplate on the letterbox door. Possibly a special order factory job? :scratch2:

That's what I was thinking, or someone took some care to do it correctly. If this was the color they chose, imagine what the rest of the furniture looked like. I'm thinking Elvis Jungle Room motif. They added the green tele for the "lime in the coconut" effect.

Either way - gah :yuck:

nothing a little citristrip and some danish oil won't fix

I don't know, it looks like that might be original. Wasn't there a slightly older Kaye Halbert on here that had original white paint a little while ago?

That was originally limed oak, and somebody painted it green. I have it in my watch column, hoping somebody else will save it. If not, I'll go up there and get it. That's a very late model with the 263 chassis, and may have the wired remote. That cabinet isn't in the catalogue, so it's probably one of the custom orders.

That was the one I was thinking of. I think these kind of look good painted. I'd probably strip and refinish that green one, but only because the paint's in such bad condition.

Sure do wish you guys lived near me-I have a VERY good furniture refinisher about a mile from here. He's done a TON of stuff for me, is reasonably quick, & while not too cheap, he don't hold you up, either. I tried re-doing a few sets myself, & they always ended up lookin' like @ss, & I prolly spent more tryin' myself than he would have charged...The Greeny Goo-Goo set wouldn't have been quite so bad if they'd done it in a "Limed" version, kinda softened the green a bit, if you follow...My WHOLE HOUSE when I bought it, inside color scheme was that Gawdawful Institutional Insane-Asylum Green w/Soup-Bean brown carpets when I bought it...Arrrrrgh..."Gee, Mr Wizard, it's 1960 !!" (grin)
