Looks like the Space Command 100. I've only seen a few of the sets, you would select 1 channel that you didn't get reception on and turn the tab, the set would then turn off when the tuner clicks to that position and back on when you change the channel again.

I have never seen a SC100 TV in all my years of electronics experimenting; the closest I ever came to seeing one was in pictures and ads for them--today the only time I ever see ads for the SC100 is when I am browsing eBay's vintage TV auctions, and even then they don't show up often at all. This remote system, IMO, was a good "bare bones" wireless control, but since it only offered two functions, channel selection in one direction only, most likely channel up, and automatic shutoff on an unused channel, it was about as simple a remote as one could get. It did not have mute or volume control, which left the viewer with no alternative when a commercial came on but to walk over to the set and physically turn down the volume, and restore it to normal level when the commercials were over--the same as if he or she had a manual TV with no remote. I guess Zenith figured that when the SC100 sets were new, since TV commercials weren't nearly so obnoxious in those days, a mute button wouldn't be necessary. Personally, I would not own a Zenith SC100 TV today, for that very reason. Today's television commercials are very aggressive and loud, and most nights when I watch the NBC nightly news I mute the sound until or unless a report comes on that I want to hear; when that report ends, I mute the sound again. With a SC100 remote I couldn't have done that, and it might have come close to driving me :nutz: nuts. :D |
