Won this at an auction paid 40 for it. Had to drive 90 miles to pick it up, will be my first restore attempt on a television set, have did many radios and decided to more up. Cleaned up nicely now to order the caps. Also got the glass ballast tube on order. Glad to have found this forum.

Kewl ! GREAT job on the Bakelite-What did you use ?

Used toothpaste with a Sears mouse polisher, then two coats of wax. Having a hard time finding some of the electrolytic caps. How close do they have to be? Mainly the 140 and the 120.

I've used Meguier's Body-Scrub, & then a couple coats of their pure carnauba wax...Used the Applicators that are attached to the ends of my arms...(grin)

I liked your set so much I just bought one! I paid $51 off ebay less than five minutes ago sight unseen. Hope the CRT is good! I probably won't start restoration right away (working on 2 already). I'm open to sharing any knowledge, resources or whatever!

Nice looking set! You were wise to pick it up semi-local. I had one shipped and it arrived in pieces.

Seriously though, I'm glad you got it. I already have one only it has a piece of bakelite missing around the screen.

I used these Nichicon caps from Mouser Electronics. I like going a little higher in the voltage rating for extra headroom.

120uF @ 400v (mouser part# 647-UPZ2G121MHD6)
150uF @ 200v (mouser part# 647-UCS2D151MHD)

P.S. I think your set came with the knobs for the wood 9VT1 version. They should look like this

I agree knobs are not stock. I believe this may have been a repair shop error or factory error. Are they catalin? I started the cap replacement tonight, checked the tubes last night and had 4 that needed to be replaced. Had all but one on hand. Long process but it will be worth it.

Mine are like Bandersens above. The small knobs are a red plastic with a little brass colored metal insert. The big clear one for the channel tuning is just clear plastic. There is an auction on ebay right now for a whole set. I need one and am going to be bidding pretty hard. Your welcome to the rest if I do win. If you are going to bid I would ask that you please just let me know. There is no reason we should start a bidding war between us. LOL

I double checked and if I were to win, I would use whats in the auction and have a set with one insert missing. The channel indicator knob would also have to be touched up because the numbers have faded. Just an FYI.

I'm already bidding on those but only need one of the red knobs and have no desire to get into a bidding war with you guys either. I already have a couple spare channel knobs if either of you are interested you can have them. Also, those recessed numbers are easy to bring back to life with a little black lacquer stick paint.

P.S. I don't think there's anything wrong with using the knobs you have. After all, they are a complete set of Motorola knobs from a very similar model.

With a good cabinet, it may be possible to make a mold of that face now so Banderson can reconstruct the face of his shattered Moto.

I'll give up my cabinet for a while if Bob is interested. I won't be able to do much with it until I get the chassis up to snuff. I already have the chassis out so it would be a no brainer, just take out the speaker. The fabric isn't the best either. Bob just P.M. me if your interested, I could probably even deliver it, I'd like to see your collection some time anyways. Ok who wins the ebay auction? Obviously we can all go our own way and pay way too much or we can figure it out here. I will settle for for an insert only if we can make this work. I also may want help hand lettering the knob. My hands are shaky as hell and that is something I have to get someone else to do. Usually I give that kinda stuff to my wife LOL. Any suggestions? Does Lynyrd want the knobs too?
