Du Mont 208 CRT Oscilliscope?
 

What do you guys make of this?

I've personally never seen one before, but I'd imagine this thing must have been a pretty sophisticated piece of equipment in it's day. (Or not) =D

If I didn't know better, I'd say it was an oscilloscope!

I remember two things:

I saw one similar at a flea market many years ago, I think the guy wanted like $10.

Was comparing some scopes at one time, someone official looking noted that old scopes like this are too slow to be of much good in diagnostics.

In Tech School back in the 1960's, we had about 20 Dumont Oscilloscopes and one Tektronix 545A. The 545A was then state of the art and very expensive - and the instructor got to use it more than the students. The Dumont scopes did not have calibrated time bases.

Other than it being a curiosity, they are not worth much because you can purchase a sophisticated Tektronix or HP scope for very reasonable prices.

Those are fairly common; definitely not worth $89 + about that to ship it. $10 swap meet item.

I'm still almost regretting that I passed up one of those at a local hamfest a couple of years ago. They were only asking five bucks for it, but then I would have had to lug it home. And it was heavy!

It's overpriced, and, his picture of lit screen clearly shows it needs complete re building. It's showing the wrong trace.
And, physically, it doesn't look that great, either.

Cute collectible item, old scopes definitely have a "Kewlness Factor" about them, but I dunno about using it to do actual repair work with...

Yeah, I figured the price was pretty unrealistic. I guess it's another one of the countless cases where someone finds something old and unusual and assumes it's worth a heap. I knew there was a great deal of interest in early televisions with round picture tubes, but I'd never read or seen very much about test equipment like this oscilloscope. Odds are, anyone who was actually interested in a scope like this, already has found one in much better shape and paid next to nothing for it.

Tektronix scopes were deemed the "Rolls Royce" of oscilloscopes and that Dumont analogous to a "Ford Escort". The thing is today older Tektronix scopes are amazingly inexpensive leaving little value for scopes like the Dumont.

I just purchased a Tektronix 7603 100Mhz oscilloscope off Ebay for $49.00 in way better shape than this Dumont. That leaves little value left for the Dumont.

I love vintage equipment "to look at", but I won't use anything less than state-of-the-art equipment when it comes to trying to get work done. I hate the idea of aligning something to a mis-calibrated generator, or measuring and setting the B+ with a drifting meter.
