Historic Replication Project

1 Attachment(s)
Hi All,

I am trying to replicate a historic home property. I am working from only one photograph to identify the make and model of this early 1960-1970 tv. Any assistance you could provide in identifying this model would be greatly appreciated.

Attached is the picture. If you have any idea, please contact this posting or contact me by e-mail at [email protected].

Thanks!

I don't recognize the set, but I'm going to stick my neck waaayyyy out and say it looks closer to something made between 1970 and 1980.

That one is a toughy. Definitely not a major name brand. I'm going to say Japanese; possibly even Korean. Maybe a Sharp, TMK or a Daytron? Late 70s-'80.

I would agree, late 70s/early 80s import. With enough patience and a stack of period Sams Photofacts you might be able to pinpoint it.

On the wall, left of the Coke machine, looks like the old "Been farming long?" photo-around that time I think every farmer had some version of that!

The photograph was taken December of 1982. All the furniture was second-hand originated sometime in the 1960-1970. The television may have been purchased new in 1981.

Thanks for all those that have replied thus far.

I think I have identified it as a Teknika 3439 19" color monitor. Do you know where I might be able to locate this?

Thanks!

That TV set looks a lot like my late 70s Toshiba TV with only minor differences (see photo below). I am guessing it could be a Toshiba or a Rank Arena.

That CRT bezel looks alot like a Sharp set.

It's probably going to be incredibly difficult.

It's hard enough to find a specific model of a major brand (at that time) like RCA Zenith or Magnavox much less an oddball Import.

I would start scouting the Thrift Stores and second hand stores, sets from that era are showing up in them now.

You could also ask Harry Poster to keep an eye out for you, he can be found at www.harryposter.com

Is it possible to scan the photo at a higher resolution, say 600 DPI at least?
That would probably bring out more detail in the picture and make it easier to see the TV clearly.

Note that Teknika sets tended to be "badge engineered" meaning somebody just slapped a name on them...I have a 13" Teknika from the early 80s and another member mentioned having the identical set as a SupreMacy. I think the company behind those sets was Wells-Gardner, though I don't think they manufactured much, if anything, on them.

Hard to imagine that a historic site had suspended ceiling tiles and cheap 4 by 8 sheets of paneling when the historic event happened... (I don't mean to make light of this historic location, history happens where it needed to).

Though some future great president of the USA will have grown up in a standard generic suburban split level house in a development. And become a historic site like Pres Lincoln's log cabin... And that log cabin probably contains incorrect period pieces, like the wrong brand or style candle holders and such. (Though I've heard that the log cabin where Lincoln was born was built years after his death). :D

I'd like to know what makes this typical early-mid 1980's office historic.

Yeah, you can almost see the "Linytron" badging on it...

I would venture a guess and say this is a photo taken in the office at Rancho del Cielo, more commonly known as the Reagan Ranch.
This was the vacation residence of President Ronald Wilson Reagan and his wife, Nancy.
Is that a portrait of him hanging above the Coke machine, to the right of the "Farm Kids" poster?
Of course, I could be completely wrong.
