I really like that 14" Emerson. Same basic styling as my 10" 648.

I am tempted to go and get that nice Philco. That looks like a real nice set and compact looking. The seller wants a lot more for that ugly Emerson; I would rather have the Philco. Looks like someone is liquidating a collection. I have heard of a man who works in television newscast that collects down that way. Seems like very few people in Virginia, or the Carolinas give a rats patootie about vintage electronics, especially TVs. I can't even give away sets; everybody is too far away to pick up, or just not interested!

Well, the opening bid is only $5 more for the Emerson. I agree the front of the Emerson is a little ugly, but the top is a classic design.

Same here over the hill in Tennessee; But OTOH, we didn't have local stations here til '54, the really early stuff you NEVER see. Plus we were POOR here, a TV was about half the price of a decent car...

I look at the "Buy it Now" because that to me gives an idea of what the person really wants to get out of something. Take a look at the price difference there. The Philco is I think $50, and the ugly Emerson with the cool top is like $125.:scratch2: I REALLY like that Philco! I HATE being cluttered up with TV sets and radios that need homes. I am seriously thinking of unloading like 70% of my stuff and just keeping maybe four or five sets.

I live just outside of Winston-Salem, NC and like you don't know of many folks in the Carolinas who collect TV's. Many more Radio collectors though.

Those were nice TV's ... but where are we going to put them? Wife says enough is enough :-)

Did you live in W-S years ago? Its changing. Downtown is picking up with restaurants and artsy stores.

Got a fair number of antique shops - but I have not found much interesting.

Nah, never lived there, just went over there quite a bit w/my dad when I was a kid. Had some friends whose daughters went to Salem. I remember the guy what owned Staley's had a Rolls & would park it as square in the door as he could...Kinda an "Up Yers !" I thought to all of his customers...Remember the summer the dude jumped off the Wachovia bldg ? The son of one of the guys my dad went over there to see was a year younger than me,we were just at the age to be REAL impressed w/something like that, 10-11 or so. There was a clothing store, Norman Stockton's that my dad went to, & I got drug there, too. But there was a guy there who Dad hit it off with, Chuck, I think was his name, he was a kid working his way thru Wake, he was a Long-Haired Hippie, complete w/moustache, but he & Daddy clicked, Henry bought LOTS of clothes from him over the years, Chuck stayed & ended up owning/running that store...Funny how you remember stuff like that....That's been 35-40 years ago now....

I also am tired of a basement full of sets. I have been parting them out , or junking them. I have a bunch of color sets that should go also. That would give me lots of room. I will keep my rare 7 inch sets like the Temple and Garod and others also. They stack well. I have 7 steel racks of tv sets. If you need sets email me please.

Yeah, I was working downtown at Western-Electric when the guy jumped off the roof of the Wachovia building. My wife to be worked at that time in the Wachovia building. Can't go to the top anymore, but before that happened I did -- but did not have the urge to jump.

The guy who owned Staley's had a Rolls. I remember that. When he died, they found the trunk full of cash. Made a lot of local news.

Downtown Winston-Salem has changed a lot from those days. Lots of restaurants, night spots and artsy galleries now.

Back in those days, we cruised on Stratford Road. 1960's muscle cars were ordinary driver vehicles that are considered priceless today. Lot of street racing back then that is a big no-no today.

Biggest tours back then was RJR Tobacco factory and Schlitz Brewery. We had a company party at Schlitz Brewery on year.

Carl, I didn't remember that you were that close by. Small world!:thmbsp: Yeah, I just can't do it anymore Carl! I used to get to cramped up and I would part out one of my worst sets just for room. I simply can not break apart a nice Space Command from the fifties and a like new 24 inch CRT. I guess I can give it to a Goodwill where it will probably go in the dumpster. At least I won't know! Then I feel like if it's going to a dumpster than I should at least save the CRT. I REALLY should just repair it, but I have become interested in other sets and the Zenith had some mystery problems that I never figured out with my training and skills at that time. I am graduating an electronics degree program in the Spring. Between that and HS electronics, I should be able to find a mystery short in a TV and get vertical sweep. With low use on the chassis, fly, and CRT, the set would make an excellent daily user. Now I REALLY want that Philco. I mean the set is playing in the picture for $50!

As for a wife, I am scared to even bring a woman to my house. People seem to, well, not get it when it comes to reasoning why someone captivated by TV sets form before their birth. I can see a woman telling me that my stuff is junk; so I will put her out on the curb..... :yes:

Hehehehehehe...People come in here & see all the various & sundry "One-Eyed Monsters" & 5711 different radios lookin' back at 'em, & they get this nervous smile...Kinda like they would, I guess, if they stumbled into Jason or Freddy's houses....Oddly enuff, I kinda LIKE it that way....My wife just shakes her head & tells herself how much she's gonna get when I kick the bucket & she gets to sell all of it...

He he. My wife and I attend estate sales most weekends. We kid one another that when we "pass on" that all our prized possessions will be auctioned and set out on the lawn in "bag fulls, and box lots" :-)

Be nice when we "pass on" that there will still be folks who know what this stuff is that we are collecting.

Been collecting here in Asheville since 1986. Moved back here from Atlanta that year. Brought several sets back with me that have been being hauled around by me since the early '70's.

The house is small, and cant hold more.

This year, I've gotten the Maggie entertainment center, and a DuMont RA-113 17" set. To get them in the house, I gave away my big cabinet where I kept my 27" Trinitron, and big stereo system. The Trinitron is on top of the DuMont cabinet, and the Maggie is wedged in beside my couch. The stereo is totally disconnected. Nothing to play the albums on right now.

Got a Crosley 402 (?) in the garage, a 21" Zenith tabletop with space command buried in the living room holding something up, and several small tube sets that are working, along with a couple of the little MCS silver component TV's that were part of a stereo system. SandyG gave me one of them.

I see sets I want almost every week. I must resist. I've been thinking about downsizing myself. VK members will be the first to know about that!!

I would load up on sets if I had the space, but since I dont, I'll deal with it.
