Zenith A600
I picked up this Zenith A600 on eBay.
After doing a recap and electrical restoration what do people usually do about the case? The covering is pretty beaten up as you can see. Should I recover it or try to touch it up? John |
Recovering looks like a ton of work:

Thanks for the link!

I did one just like this for a buddy of mine a few years ago. I recapped it and cleaned the contacts etc, but the case was in excellent condition and only needed a few little nicks touched up with a black sharpie and then black paste shoe polish all over. On one a little worse you could use black shoe dye. But in your case, John, I think you'd need to recover it. These are really nice radios once they are redone. I'd say you got a good deal on it.
BTW the line cord needs a side entry plug rather than the common rubber one somebody stuck on there in the photo series. |

Good. Yeah, I was referring to the one shown in the 50+ picture series. I had to scrounge around and come up with a black side entry plug in my case. I guess if somebody had to, one of those no-strip white ones where the cord goes in the side and there's a quick lever closure on top would work, but those don't look very professional for something like this.

I have one of these but its a B600. A friend of mine has one similar with a badly worn case. He actually stripped the cloth fabric or whatever it is down to the wood, and varnished the wood. Not that I would do that, but it looked very nice when it was all done.
