It was me, I bought the hallicrafters 818 in Seattle.

You may have seen the ebay photo showing the tv intact, I know you would
like a closer look. No need to make another aquarium as a good crt sits on top waiting to be put back.
The owner said that she watched programs on this set up untill she was 5 years old.

Chasis is a little dusty and rusty. Missing the 5U4 was a bonus, Preventing
the owner doing damage by trying the set out before selling it.

Beyond the dust a ring test revealed a good flyback and of course
not having half of the wax tire sitting at the bottom of the hv cage is also a good thing.

I was impessed by methode of construction used for the rf tuner not only is it realy solid it's by far one of the easiest to work on.
With a good 16GP4, flyback and power transformer this set is on the way.
Well after postal strike is over and i get my capacitors from just radios. :yes:

Yes the blue tube tested good, Half a dozen good 6SN7s didn,t hurt either. :thmbsp:

Handsome set, and that's an interesting turret tuner with the little printed-circuit traces.

In the shot of the underside, it looks like a small pink power resistor (towards the top) might be burned in two?

Congrats! That's a really cool set - I love the tuner.
I have a few of those Arturus tubes too. They were only a few bucks each on ebay back in 2005/6. I suspect they are worth a bit more now.

Of all the tuners i have worked on, I think this one takes the prize for beauty
and good engineering. While waiting for capacitors i decided to clean and lube
bushings and contacts.

The round contacts on the channel strips were easily pollished using a pencil eraser. Notice the copper plate used for adjusting the oscillator,This simple solid design sure beats tuning slugs in card board tubing.

Drum assy, The shaft sleaved with brass bushings.

Also polished the stationary contacts and applied tuner lube.

Round 2 may be a little tougher

Supprisingly the broken wire wound resistor is still hanging by a thread and has continuity (R181 220 ohm 3 watt) couples the cathode of the horizontal output tube to ground. Careful scrutiny of the output circuit will done as both resistor and tube have been running a little hot.
