Can Any One Identify This Set?

The channel knob is an RCA style but I can't seem to place the make and model.http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6069/...843a5d831b.jpg

That's a early model Bendix, I think.

vts1134 08-20-2011 05:58 PM

10" maybe?

Sams set # 84, folder 4 (2-1950) shows a pix of Bendix model #2001.... looks exactly the same! Cute little set... I have never seen one in person!

Add: 10" (10BP4), 16 tubes, Transformer powered with 5V4 rectifier.
Add #2: Really simple set, horiz out and osc combined in only one tube, no damper diode, lots of room to work under the chassis.... would make Muntz proud!

I have the same one. I recapped most of it and it worked good until the vertical collapsed. It's almost due on the bench. Pretty simple inside. 2001u is the model number I believe.

I agree; I think it's a Bendix, although there were many third-party sets with almost the same identical cabinet, and same chassis.

Look very closely at the photo of the set. The name "Bendix" is there, in script (so light in the photo it is very easy to miss), so unless another chassis was transplanted into this cabinet, it's a Bendix TV.

Here is a pix of the front sheet of the Sams Photofact. The "Bendix" logo is more visible (although not great) and looks to be the same shape as that shown in the op. They also show that a 12LP4 is used on some models, but I still think the set in question is a 10". I bet the "3000" series sets are indeed, 12".

It's a 10" Bendix 2001u. It's sitting in the back of my car right now.

Good Score! :beerchug:

Any idea what the "u" stands for? UHF was not broadcast commercially until about Sept 1952.

What is your crt mask made of? My mask is made of cardboard and looks like it was done by a fourth grader in arts and crafts class.

The Photofact folder contains one picture from the rear of the set that shows what appear to be staples in the upper right and upper left corners of the mask... could it really have been that crude from the mfg? :scratch2:

I just took it apart and this is what the back looks like.

I'm going to go to Michael's and have them cut a white mat to size for it.
