CTC-11C Winfield
 

This is the set miniman82 posted the Minneapolis CL link to on Sunday night. I emailed the seller and had a reply back come Monday morning. He said it was about to get trashed, and to come get it ASAP. So about 6:30 monday night my son and I departed for the 175-mile round trip and brought it home. Pictures are as-found condition. It has normal scuffs and dings, but overall I don't think it should be refinished. Looks pretty clean inside too. Both the CRT and chassis serial numbers match the back cover. All three guns showed low emission at first reading, they’ve since come up into the good range on my B&K 466. Only time will tell what shape the CRT is in. Hopefully this winter I can take a better look at it. Anyone recognize what that contraption is in the HV cage, on the top of the 6BK4?

A couple more pictures showing some scratches in the finish. The top looks the worst, but they're not really down into the wood. Still a lot of dust on it.

Hi Kevin, nice find! I found your sets older brother in "The Brookfield" cabinet a few weeks ago here in Minneapolis! Your cabinet looks good too, nothing nasty to address... Mine has the earlier CRT with the safety glass, but the same cabinet style in walnut finish. Monday I removed the chassis from mine and started to inventory parts to rebuild it. The doughnut on top of the shunt regulator is nothing more than a replacement cap for the tube -- interestingly enough when I pulled mine off Monday night, it crumbled necessitating a replacement!

Correction: I think the set I have is a Winfield, not the Wakefield. I'll edit my title.

Feel free to post a picture of your Brookfield here, I'd love to see it.

Bill, My appologies. I now remember replying to you CTC-11 post just down below. As you can see, I have a pretty bad short term memory. :o That is a very nice set you have there. Wish mine had the seperate safety.

Actually all sets I have with 6BK4s use that same connector cap as OEM granted all my shunt reg color sets are RCA clones (and one non-clone admiral). I think they used those super-insulated caps so adventureous techs could disconect the regulator with the set running (I think I tried that at some point).

You got a real looker of a console there!

Bill, Does your set still have the serial number on the back cover and chassis? I'm curious what your s/n is since we both have CTC-11C chassis in the same cabinet.

Those caps on top of the 6BK4 are made that way for a reason...they are connected to the 2nd anode. They wanted that connector well insulated. I would not recommend removing that top cap during operation.

Glad you saved it. I would have made the drive, too. That cabinet only needs some touch-ups, and you have all the right knobs, as well.
