GE "picture cube" radio
 

I was at the flea market recently and saw a small, square GE battery operated transistor radio. The speaker is top firing and the controls are on the underside of the radio. All four sides of the radio have a place to slide a photo in. They want $10 for it and they claim it's from '72; but, it looks much newer. It actually looks to be from the '80's or later. I'm sure it will be there the next time I go and if I can get them down a little on it, I may buy it. Has anyone seen one like it?

Yup...70's. My Mom had one. Pretty sure she got hers in '72 or '73. Designed to hold square Instamatic 124 pics as I recall.

I have one, and I got it at a thrift. General Electric wasn't making the cute gimmicky sets after about 1977 or so anymore. I also have a Blue Max, the sound is underwhelming.

Yep, that's the radio. I may get it, if it's still there, when I go back.

Yep, definitely from the 70s when square pictures were common. By 1980, 35mm cameras had become much more popular and took over most of the market until digital cameras dominated. I remember the photo cubes (without a radio) being very common themselves.
