Part two of my long day.
 

The other set I picked up was this Emerson Bakelite I won on eBay, it was up in Moorepark CA, about 60 miles from Dans house.

I've been wanting the 10" round version of this set but for $50 I was happy to get a rectangular 14" version, the down side is that I specifically asked the seller if a line I could see in the cabinet was a scratch or a crack, he said scratch, of course when I arrived it was a crack after all. :sigh:

Well at least it's tight and in the back, I can glue it and it won't be noticeable, the cabinet is in really good shiny condition otherwise.
The CRT unfortunately checks really weak, even bumping the voltage didn't help much.
I have a 14" squared off CRT that's good but I don't know if it'll sub, I don't even know what tube is in here yet since the label is missing.

The last set of the day was back this way in Chino CA, about 80 miles from Moorepark but not far out of my way on the return trip.
Called the seller and made the arraignments to pick it up.

It's a Zenith 21" SC300, probably from the late 50's early 60's judging by the style. The CRT (21CXP4)in it checked weak at first too but bumping the voltage made it shoot up to good and stay there even when brought back to 6.3v. It still checked good after a cool down so I think it's going to be useable, maybe in another set, this one's pretty cruddy.
The set's a beater but it's complete and it was only $10 so no big deal.

Left the house at 8:15 am and got home around 5:00 pm, All totaled about 275 miles of driving. :yes:

Neat score on the Zenith, my grandad had that one-Or its double 1st cousin...Is it a remote control ? Fritz's was...

Whats the model of the emerson?

What model is the zenith?

If the Zenith is all metal with no serious damage, it is probably worth restoring even if it is cruddy.

The tube in the Emerson 662 should be a 14BP4....Neat set!

It is a model 662, my spare tube is a 14QP4, not compatible.
I powered it up on the Variac and it had a raster of sorts, it was pretty bright considering the tube isn't that great, it'll probably work OK if it was recapped.

It crapped out after about a minute and the 5U4 was getting red so no doubt the filters are shot but the basics are OK.

If you have to use your QP4, you could remove the focus coil and hook the focus element (pin 6) to somewhere around 300 volts (not very critical) or even just strap it to G2 which is pin 10. Use a single ion trap... should work fine.

Early remote sets aren't terribly common, and it don't look all that bad so it IMHO is well worth restoring.

Nice score. I like how the 14" rectangular set evolved from the 10" round one.
Are you missing some knobs ? If it uses the same type as the 648, I think I have some.

I took the Zenith to work with me, along with the Variac, wanted to see what it would do.

I guess I shouldn't have been surprised when around 100 volts I got a full bright raster! Quite sure if I had a video source I would have had a good picture.

Hi Bob, yes it's missing some knobs, pretty sure I have the channel selector but not sure what the others look like. If they are regular Emerson knobs I may have them too.

Here are some photos. I definitely have some spare inner knobs for the power/volume. Note the center should be gold - mine is just worn off.
I'm also not 100% sure, that's the original channel knob :scratch2:

The channel knob on mine has squared off ridges rather than the pointed ones on yours. Plus, the color is a perfect match to the rest of the knobs. I would take a picture, but that tv is buried under AMC Pacer parts (though the car just came back today after a month at the body shop.)

I believe this is the knob for both our sets.
I found one in my box of knobs, I will look for another for you.

Ah-ha, that makes more sense. I looked through my knobs and found one too :) It's a little banged up, but works and looks much better.
