Yeah its a Dumont RA-103.

bandersen 03-04-2012 06:47 PM

Ah, but which one?
I found this list Tom Albrect put together
Maybe a Sheffield or Canterbury ?

RA-103 Chatham - trapezoidal table model "doghouse," picture in Rider vol. 1
RA-103 Savoy - presumed same cabinet as RA-103C Savoy; Rider vol. 1 mentions AM tuner and phonograph in this model
RA-103 Meadowbrook - console, mahogany, no doors, screen on left, speaker center bottom
RA-103 Sutton - ? (Is this a typo in the Rider index?)
RA-103 Stratford - ? (Rider vol. 1 says this is a table model, and all parts except the wooden cabinet itself are common with the Chatham; Rider also says "The Stratford is easily recongizable by the doors which cover its front panel.")
RA-103C Savoy - console, mahogany, with doors, screen in center, AM tuner on left, FM tuner on right, phonograph lower right, speaker lower left
RA-103C Winthrop - same as Savoy, but in knotty pine
RA-103D Rumson - rectangular table model, with square tuner window; picture in SAMS set 93, folder 4
RA-103D Sheffield - ? (Rider vol. 3 mentions a 10 inch speaker for this, so it should be some kind of console)
RA-103D Canterbury - ? (Rider vol. 4 says it has the same speaker as the Sheffield, so it must be some kind of console)

That I'm not sure about. I haven't seen that cabinet style before.

While we're at it, how about this set ?

The CRT in that DuMont looks bigger than in my RA-103. Wasn't there a model RA-104, similar to RA-103 but with larger CRT options?

Yeah, I think you're right. The RA-104 uses a 15DP4.

Tony V 03-05-2012 07:38 PM

The Dumont is a RA-110...I have the same exact model in blonde as shown in this one. It has a RA-103 based chassis with a 19AP4 crt.

bandersen 03-05-2012 07:49 PM

Hmm. I was hoping it was smaller. I'd be tragic if I ended up with this set and the 19AP4 was bad as I just sold one.

Tony V 03-05-2012 08:57 PM

It doesnt take up too much real estate for such a big screen tv. I'll be home tommorrow as i'm out of town right now but can measure mine for you if you are curious to how big it is. Its more deep than anything but not too wide. Mine had a dud crt in it when i bought it off Ebay a couple years ago for $10 but managed to get a crt through connections here on VK for $75 so only have $85 invested and a tank of gas. I was lucky that it had already been recapped in the past. Its down at the moment due to a bad focus control pot. Although i have many tv's, combo's, and ect, i have no regrets getting this one as its a fantastic performer.

Thanks for the info. If I ever hear back from the owner, I'll certainly go that a look at it. Both sets appear to have been very well looked after.

Eight months later these sets have resurfaced on craiglist. This time with prices.

RA-110 that uses the RA-103D chassis , i have one but its the one without the doors , the chassis has the identation for the 12" crt to fit into , also the fly is mounted in a seperate chassis, Dimensions are 30" across by 23" deep by 40" tall , that one with doors might be a tad bigger as far as deep and wide but not by much , a nice set.

I have, what I think, might be a Savoy combo. It even has a good 15DP4.
I thought it strange, to have a separate AM radio chassis. Another strange item, is the phono is amplified through the TV chassis, instead of through the small radio chassis.
These sets are the epitome of overkill. :sigh:
