removing paint from bakelite?
 

I picked up a wall hanging bakelite cased speaker. The cone is bad so ill just replace that speaker entirely, but the beatiful swirled brown bakelite has paint drops allover it. Ive tried lighter fluid to no avail.

I really dont want to damage this with a product that will mar the finish.

What do i use?

goof off or opps should work.

Is it a flat surface where you can just scrape it off with a razor blade?

Bakelite is pretty impervious to most chemicals, I use Citristrip to remove paint from it with no ill effects.
Standard disclaimer, test it on an inside surface just to be sure.

Once you get the paint off (I second Eric's ideas - though a razor blade will scratch if you're not really careful), turtle wax polishing compound paste, the old fashioned kind works really well to shine up bakelite with a bit of work.

I had an old AM bakelite radio brought to me awhile back where somebody attempted a maroon paint job on it. It looked like hell and was flaking off. The bakelite had a nice brown swirl to it, so I dismantled it and ran it thru the dishwasher. The warm sudsy water took all of that spray can paint right off. I followed it up with Carnuba wax and it looked great.
