Got Fuses?
 

I managed to get my hand on some original style 3 1/2 amp fuses (C-type) for my CTC9. It seems they are not made anymore. The place I got them from says they still have quite a few left... perhaps 3 or 4 dozen. I would assume the CTC7 uses the same... I don't know about the earlier sets, but you guys that have them probably know.

Anyway, these guys would probably like to get these obsolete fuses out of their inventory. If anyone is interested, I could acquire them and send them out to those that would like to have spares.

I put a regular fuse holder in my old CTC-9, I figured it was probably a lot safer than the exposed tip of the old one just sitting there waiting to bite me as I carelessly place my hand right on it. lol

Is that the push-N-twist fuse? Not familiar with the type number... I have plenty of those, but I know they're hard to come by. You have to watch out for those, because if one is open, and you happen to reach for it at the supply end and not the load end, you might discharge a whole bank of electrolytics across your hand!

I did the same thing for the same model chassis. I guess that since other parts will not be original, This would be an easy "upgrade".

Yes, it's the push-N-twist. I figured most people would have upgraded to a more modern fuse holder. I was headed that direction if I couldn't find the original style. Some folks, however, like to keep things as original as possible. Of course, I'm not one of those folks. In this case, it was just one less thing I would have to change.

It was kinda funny... the guys at this place had never even seen this fuse (probably on the shelf for many years) or had never heard of a "C" type.

I really don't recall if I've seen this fuse in any other TV's. I suppose it's one of those things that you don't really think about... untill the day it blows and you don't have a replacement on hand.

I've seen them in many '50s RCAs, and I think in other products as well (thinking of maybe a Hammond organ, and other audio stuff, IIRC).

I call those bayonet fuses, my late 50's RCA B&W portables uses that type.
Just recently I was looking for a 3/10 amp for my '58 RCA and I found one at Talon.

That is what my CTC9 had and I just replaced it with a good used "regular" type of fuse holder. I saw no reason to try and find the bayonet fuse when I have so many of the "regular" type. I didn't feel that would compromise originality that much.

I also have a large stash of these fuses and posted here to get any interest in replacements. Other than one inquiry who didn't get any, no one was interested.

No doubt there's probably a lot more of these old fuses laying around than there is demand for them.
