I see them from time to time but usually installed into an aircraft carrier, and CM made the biggest and baddest ones.

Glen waters has an extensive website he's all about the Curtis Mathes sets. a Zillion
pictures , brochures ads etc he's probably got most of the ones that are still working
in his collection. His web site is quite interesting .

yah i found the curtis mathis website / club before i found videokarma because i have a 1982 curtis mathis combo console trying to find a schematic for the stereo part or anypart of the tv, my parents bought it brand new in 82 with the vcr payed ton for it.i joined the website uploaded pictures of it looks still brand new , not one person would even say hello there ,so im no longer a member there, once i found videokarma.

That's what I've noticed about some clubs online, they're so happy clappy about how if you have a Whatever, join the fun. Then they diss everyone except about 20 regular members. I had a Curtis Mathes stereo with tape that I swapped for an empty Sylvania tv console. The man I got the CM from said it was playing moments before I got it, none of the speakers seemed to be hooked up and I can't fix anything, and no good place to store it. I have better luck here than anywhere else, just as a collector.

Don't listen to Sandy - that bridge is 129 years old today, and the price will undoubtedly drop when it reaches 130 (besides, I have the deed proving it was sold to me when it was only 100).

IMO, the CM upright, RCA clone, console pictured in Tom S. post is one of the more attractive CM roundies. Most were ugly, oversized, top heavy monsters.

Wasn't CM usually sold with a service contract like RCA's sometimes had?

snelson903 05-24-2012 02:44 PM

Funny. The Ad show the same photograph of Jack Benny and Johnny Carson selling RCA color TVs. Was the CM a rebadged CTC-12 or 13?

Glen Waters' CM site linked on post #3 says CM had a 4 year warranty on it's high end color sets.

That brochure is interesting - The picture of Carson and Benny was used in an RCA color TV ad - so I wonder how the licensing went. The second picture (with no simulated image) was crudely lighted in terms of the shadows thrown on the tube by the bezel. Most companies hired professional photographers who set up separate lighting for the face and the cabinet, took two shots, and then cut and pasted them together.
