Does any one own a 1950s Magnavox color tv?

Does anyone have or know someone who has a 1950s Magnavox color television?

They did make a few didn't they.

There is only one model that may have been built, in 1955-56, and none are known to still exist. Here is the Early Television Foundation link with a picture:

Yes, otherwise I would not have a Sam's folder for a CTC-4 clone.

Has anybody seen one?

In the "COLOR TELEVISION" 1957 edition published by Radio & Television News they list all the available color sets for that year. One Magnavox color set is listed. Model: Cmud-477. Unlike the other sets, no picture is included. The article states: "The Magnavox Co. is retailing one color TV set available in either mahogany or blonde at $695.00. The basc chassis for this receiver is supplied by the RCA Victor Company - the cabinet is by Magnavox. Service for these sets is available from the RCA Service Co". If these sets were even produced, they would, at this 1957 date, be CTC-5 clones. I have never seen or read of this model. There is no SAMS listing for the Cmud-477. The Magnavox CTC-4 clones were available in at least two model styles.

That's was also posted by zenithfan1 under "Crackhead alert: 12AU7, $50- EACH TUBE!"

zenithfan1 06-28-2012 08:08 PM

Yeah, I didn't see it here and posted in nick's crackhead thread.

Ha Ha! I'll pay that guy $10,000. If he can produce a color image on that set. The colors black & white and all the shades of gray in between don't count.

It may be a Magnavox, but it's not color.

At least it has UHF....I think. Since it's in Austin, Texas, which has mostly UHF TV stations (or had, before DTV), I would think it would have a UHF tuner. The only VHF station in Austin, if I remember correctly what I've read of the area's TV stations, is KLBJ-TV on channel 7. The rest are (or again, were) UHF, so that set would have almost certainly had a UHF tuner built in unless a UHF converter was used ahead of the VHF tuner.

Hope someone gives that little thing the home it deserves, nice that it still seems complete.
