ARCI 2012 photos

I spent a few hours this morning at the annual Antique Radio Club of Illinois swapfest. It wasn't quite the turn out we've had in the past, but it was still a good time.

Here's a set of photos I took: http://www.flickr.com/photos/7003980...230520/detail/

I only saw one vintage TV - a metal Arvin rebranded as a Hospix set. It was tempting but thought it was a little too rough for the asking price. Especially with an unknown CRT.

The seller dropped the price to $50. Perhaps I should have picked it up :scratch2:

I saw a nice Zenith Chromacolor II metal cabinet set with the cart that had a sold sign on it. That Arvin set looked interesting, there probably aren't too many around.

Sometimes a sticking meter is due to static: a wipe-down of the meter face with a dryer sheet can sometimes fix it.

Bob, I surprised you didn't get that little green set. Maybe if it was cheaper...
I thought it was an interesting color for a TV and probably pretty rare.

A little spritz of Novus #1 has work for me too.

It was tempting, but I just couldn't do it. It didn't help that it was too hot to touch from baking in the sun.

Tom C. (Electronic M) got that one from me (price was free). I hate to throw that stuff away, so I often bring "hard sell" items along to give away.

Indeed I did buy it, a 14" GE portable and a NIB Car radio/cassette/TV(like the ones discussed a while back) from Jim as well. The Zenith needed only focus and static convergence to display a good picture, but not long after I put the back on again it showed clear signs of needing it's tuner cleaned. It is also starting to get the beginning symptoms the same mysterious one or two guns getting intermitantly cut off issue that I've been going nuts trying to solve for the past year on a 1971 Zenith hybrid I got from DRH4683. The GE has got a shrunken raster and needs a control cleaning, but looks like an easy resto. I haven't tried the car TV yet.

I was watching Umatic tapes on the Sony deck(After a few years of wanting Umatic in my recording formats collection-20$ and a sharp eye got me there) through the Zenith...The same day I got all of it....It amazes me when I can get that much unknown equipment on the same day and have it all work. :3

In one of the photos behind that child's phono console is a boring box that I have wanted for YEARS....an SQ format quadraphonic decoder and for only 15$. The person in the next booth kindly offered to pass the payment on to the absent seller which if he had not I'd have paged the seller over the PA or sat there until they returned as I could not bring my self to leave the meet with out that item. The cord was cut off, a glass cover for an indicator lamp is missing, and it looked like it was stored in a rather bad environment for quite some time, but after replacing the cord it seems to work(I haven't yet dug through my LP library for my SQ albums so all I got is regular stereo to feed it). In the next few days I plan to overhaul my AV racks to add it, some other stuff, delete some items that are to be replaced with better things, and finally get my quad system to be respectable.

I also got a GOOD reel tape deck and dbx NR decoder/encoder for 20$. It was a nearly identical model to what has been my main deck for 8 years(though the servo control circuits died on old faithful reciently), and because I got good at swapping the belt on the old one doing so on the new one was a piece of cake...It was built so the belt was significantly easier to change than on the old one. That and control cleaning was all it seemed to need.

I also got lucky at the nearest thrift to the meet as I scored a good Betamax HiFi deck, and a NIB Colecovision.

I only got one radio Zenith's last American made clock radio...the seller talked me into it for 10$.

I love Radiofest...could not be happier with my finds!
