interstage transformers, need help
So im a bit confused, okay im very confused. What does it mean when a transformer is "3 to 1" or "5 to 1", or so?
Im using a 3 to 1 thoradson installed just after my detector tube with two final tubes in back of it. Its not very loud (it only drives a 3" speaker fair) and i dont understand why. (i basically followed schematics and it read that i needed a 3 to 1, so thats why i bought it) I may have something crossed and im going to a radio club to have some guys look at it next weekend. Ive been using a solid state amp to get it louder but that seems like cheating to me. A radio buff in town i met has a 5 to 1 and a 10 to 1 for sale and i said im pretty interested in picking one up from him. I tried looking online and frankly im just getting badly confused. I was going to add two more cx-201a tubes in my final (making it four cx-201a tubes for the final) for hopefully more volume. Do i need to find a different transformer for it? Also, would four tubes as finals be able to drive a moderate sized speaker so i could listen to this comfortably across the room? |
