Admiral AM-FM power-tune
1 Attachment(s)
Picked this up at Kutztown for $8 in the spring. It weighs a ton and I cannot find info anywhere but very Japan.
It sounds great. 15 transistor as marked. AM/FM/AFC. Dial light. Local/distant switch. The auto-tune is battery and works but tends to slip past the next station. It comes with an AC adaptor hidden in a back compartment. A new 1/8th connector will make that well again. |
I would have grabbed that one, too! I have a couple Panasonics with power tuning, a neat gimmick.

I'd love something like that! Outside of a 1965 Trans-Oceanic, I only have a Magnavox Celestial, as far as fancy radios go. Westinghouse and General Electric made some impressive multi band sets too.

The only antique transistor radio I have is a 1958 Zenith Trans-Oceanic Royal 1000. The rest of my sets are from the '70s, with one (my Zenith R-70) from 1980. Still excellent performers, although the dial cord on the T/O 1000 broke so I have to turn the tuning cap manually to change stations. That isn't an issue for me, as I keep that radio set on AM 740 in Toronto. I recently put a new set of batteries in it and I use it occasionally, but not much, so the batteries should last months or years -- I've heard that the solid-state T/O's don't draw much current, so a set of batteries should last me a good long time.

Oh, wait, I have a Zenith Trans Symphony from '61 or so, AM-FM, which just about plays. And a way newer big Radio Shack AM-FM with extra features, nothing with power tuning except for the '71 Magnavox stereo theatre.

Thanks, Rich |
Rich, I didn't get a battery holder in mine either. Someone soldered a nine volt battery terminal onto the top of the two pin plug, and wrapped some electrical tape around it. And cut out about an inch of the battery cover, maybe for hooking one of those cheap adapters to plug into the wall. Radio works somewhat with that little battery hooked up in it.
