Picked up a cute little cathedral today on LA & my trip to Cumberland Gap. Needs a dial, & oughta go see Terry-hums a bit, but DOES sorta work. Whoever had it, had a 1 foot piece of lamp cord doing duty as an antenna..Anybody know where I can get a dial ? Thanks, Sandy

i have a large box of used knobs & dials iv collect over the yrs ,post a picture of what it might look like and ill take a look see.

Mark Oppat has lots of repro Philco dials. If he doesn't have yours, he knows where you can get one:

Be careful with the old original Philco dials: some have water soluble ink and you can wipe away the numbers really quick!

The one in this particular set is all dried, cracked & broken.The plastics they had back nearly 80 years ago weren't much punkin'... I wonder, too, if it originally had a glass plate in front of it ?

Sandy, I don't believe this model had a dial glass on it.

It is kinda interesting when a really old set still sort of works on the original parts. A few years back I found a 1932 Philco cathedral that worked, albeit with distorted audio, and the only non-original caps were some 40's era lytics that had been unceremoniously wired in parallel with the originals.
Rebuilding the block caps on that was really enjoyable, and all it really needed to preform well.

This is a 5 tube, likely "Non-Expensive" set-And its survived 75 years & still works...Try THAT w/yr 2012 Ipod, Ipad, Iflop Ishyte...Where will ANY of our 2012 toys be in 75 years ?

March 16, 2013...Well, got this Bad Boy back from Terry today...Terry didn't have much good to say about it,other than it likely works as good as new now...But that wasn't all THAT great, from what I read between the lines from him... Well...I hooked it up to the Antenna I have around the perimeter of the ceiling in my Radio Room...And, DAH-YUM, it came ALIVE...Went from bein' pretty DEEF to OMIGAWD...Ok, its NOT my R-389, R-390As, or the EK-07...But for a consumer-grade 75 yr old radio w/5 tubes, it ain't HALF bad...But its been my experience that MOST of the old guys like this will give a VERY good accounting of themselves, if you give 'em a half-way decent antenna...

Congratulations on another addition to your collection.
The performance and reception of five tubes usually beats 7 transisitors IMO.

Philco's and Zenith's seemed to not make anything but better and best when it comes to 1930s-40s radios.
