Philco T45-124
I didn't expect to ever be posting in this forum, but I couldn't pass up on this nifty little Philco radio from 1959. It has four transistors and a detector diode.
Does anyone have service info for it ? http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8469/8...78019e1e_z.jpg http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8051/8...0cc065eb_z.jpg http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8184/8...ff0001e9_z.jpg I sure hope those cool looking transistors are good  http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8050/8...c536c52c_b.jpg |
I found the schematic in Beitmans vol. 20. You can download all the Beitmans here for free :D http://makearadio.com/beitmans/index.php

I've seen early transistors before but they looked more like these. I guess they were European or Japanese. http://www.cjseymour.plus.com/elec/basicfab/VTRANS.jpg http://semiconductormuseum.com/Museu...s/image009.jpg |

I have one of those heavy front, early 60's GE AM-FM portables, that uses Philco transistors in the IF stages. They must've been better. :thmbsp: I think their semiconductor plant was phased out, when Ford started restructuring. :sigh: |

The print shows some kind of a reflex circuit for the second IF. Also, the transistor was rather critical in that circuit. |
Looks like that set has a pretty long ferrite antenna. Bet it will hear a lot of stations once you get it going.

I hope to find out soon. New caps arrive Tuesday :)

Last night I decided to tackle this little radio. The biggest challenge turning out to be just getting the darn PCB out of the cabinet!
I had to carefully pry loose two tri-mount fasteners on the speaker side and unsolder a few wires going to the speaker and battery terminals before I could work it loose. http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7140/8...41256842_c.jpg http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8349/8...4151726f_c.jpg Most of the electrolytics are completely shot. This should measure 5uF not 216 pF! http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8197/8...e7dee400_c.jpg Here it is recapped. I popped in some fresh AA batteries and t works just fine :D Next up I'll do a little alignment. http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7279/8...aac90433_c.jpg |
I finished the alignment and found the the 1st two IF coils were dead on, but the 3rd was pretty far off. Even so it was performing fairly well and is even better now :music:
I went over the cabinet with a little Novus #2 and am calling this project done :D http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7115/8...384f7aa5_c.jpg |
Cute! And it looks like new.
