the old one was a mirical that it worked it was crumbling!

Just like vintage TV sets, be sure to replace all the wax caps. And the electrolytic caps too. And it's likely a hot chassis set, so exercise care. :yes:

Hello that stromberg is mine it is a reciever from a 1950s combo tv phono and radio I had to junk out the thing do to mold issues on the cabinet I shedded a tear each time I removed the tubes but atleast I am saving the reciever...Timothy

That's not what I mean. Why on gods green earth would you plug a crumbling cord in just to see if something will light up? Somebody is going to electrocute themselves someday.
