Lucky kid got a TV for Christmas!

I'm guessing this was Xmas 1956.
I never got presents like this as a kid! but then we were somewhat poor.

This picture is for sale on eBay (not by me) but I enhanced it a bit so it could be posted here.

Wonder what color it is? maybe Red, or Blue, or Aqua? (three colors I've seen them in)

There's a large Motorola behind him and that's a very "Eames" looking Table on the right.

Interesting! I wonder if their situation of 1956 could be similar to Christmases at my house in the late 60s, such as this pic being taken in the living room where an older TV was located while in the den sat a more recent model.

I thought that set was the neatest thing ever. An AM radio, an all channel TV and it had a phono jack as well. I have a couple of those in my collection. Full power transformer and voltage doubler power supply. Some of Emerson's 24" sets were transformerless.

I didn't know ANY kids in 1956 with their own TV's! Most families were lucky if they had one TV in the living room, and lots didn't have it yet. What a lucky kid! I was building one and two tube radios from old parts about that time and having fun with it.

BOY! if a kid had a tv in 56 his family was RICH!
id be up there all day watching tv!

When I was 5 in 1950, my aunt gave me her "old" 630TS, which had been converted to a 12" screen by the RCA Service Company. We lived in White Plains, just outside of NYC so reception was excellent on a number of stations.

The 50's wasn't like it is today. All the programming during the day was various variety shows, such as Garry Moore, Arthur Godfrey, soap operas and women's programming. Also some quiz shows and local variety shows.
I never was much of a daytime TV viewer. :no:

Actually, the print as viewed on ePray, indicates that it was made in Jan '58, so that probably was Christmas of '57.

(The print manufacture date on the left border was apparently cropped when the image was enhanced.)

Let's hope the kid lived near a TV station, or he will get no pictures, unless his pappy lets him connect it to the house antenna.

My aunt got a brand new CTC-5 for her 8th birthday, needless to say, her parents were quite well off.

The set came out in fall of '56.
That set was hotter than the RCA 8" or the GE 9". It has a Standard Coil Neutrode tuner. They're fair performers, with only two stages of IF.
The sets sold around here had a UHF tuner. :thmbsp:

Hey the only time I got a tv when I was 9 my grandfather gave me a 1950s westinghouse tv it was black and white he got on a hauling job it lasted me until my 14th birthday but I had the familys admiral black and white console as a back up it lasted until the late 1980s it was a 1963 model...

Oh yes, shag rugs and shag carpeting was available in the 1950s, and became much more popular in the late '60s and through the '70s. (picture from lpcoverlovers-Barbara Nichols)
